I was sitting in the office the other day when a couple of my colleagues were watching Who Wants to be A Millionaire. Apparently there's a daytime version now, and it's hosted by a woman, not Regis. One of the questions asked was "what type of ball was Lebron James holding on the cover of Time Magazine?" and it listed three other balls as other options. The contestant asked the audience as a lifeline and I began to ask myself another question; Does she seriously not know who Lebron James is or does she think maybe he was advertising another sport for some odd reason?
I realize non-NBA fans aren't going to watch the finals but you couldn't turn on the TV or go online without hearing or reading something about him during that time. I don't want to rip on that lady too much but I seriously don't understand. Does she belong in the same categ
ory as the lady who thought an elephant was bigger than the moon? Alright, that's extreme but still, how can you not know who Lebron James is? During his prime, did she not know who Michael Jordan was? How many baseball players can she name. Can it be possible she has no idea there's drama with Brett Favre?I'm not a fan of the Jonas Brothers or Hannah Montana but I happen to know who they are simply because we hear about them all the time. This might just have to be added to a list of other things I don't understand and may never. I've never understood the appeal of shopping, soap-operas and chick flicks, or the purpose of making the bed in the morning when you're just going to mess it up a few hours later anyway. Yeah, it's a list of random things but why go look for something to spend your money on when you don't know what you need or want when instead, you can save your money for something you'll later want or need? That way, when you do know, you can go pick it up, get out once you do, and not make an entire day event out of it. Why watch something with terrible acting, no action, no humor and is as boring as can be? In my mind, that's a description of soaps and chick flicks and I guess I'll just never get it.
Sports in my mind are the exact opposite. They provide plenty of action, comical moments and the only time you have to worry about bad acting is if a punter is trying to draw a flag. Maybe the problem lies with trying to understand the Un-understandables. If we keep trying to understand it, we're just be searching for something that's not really there.
