Maddenless Football League

OK, not John Madden jokes, but everybody knows by now the Hall of Famer has announced his retirement from the broadcast booth. Madden's broadcasting career lasted for 30 years and will be equally as well known for the Madden NFL video games. He knows a lot about the game of football and always made it that much more entertaining.

The 73-year old said it was just his time to go and he wants to spend some time with his family. “The thing that made it hard is not because I’m second guessing; ‘Is it the right decision?’, but I enjoyed it so damn much,” he said. “I enjoyed the game and the players and the coaches and the film and the travel and everything.”

It's obvious that Madden did enjoy the the players and coaches and some might say he enjoyed one player in particular, and now that he's gone, there's really no point to continuing his own career. "I just did some serious soul searching and I decided, if Brett Favre wasn't going to play, I wasn't going to broadcast because, really, what's the point? If Brett Favre, the greatest athlete in the history of sports in all the universe is retiring, I better retire too because it's kind of pointless. I mean, what is the point? What better time to leave the game than at the same time Brett Favre leaves the game. Now I know what they mean by quit while you're ahead."

Yeah, I know what I said, no Madden jokes, but you didn't actually think I would do it did you? Madden will be missed and he will be replaced by Chris Collinsworth. On a side note (well, almost), if the Madden games do end, he will have ended on a high note seeing as the last player to be on the cover wasn't affected by the curse.

Well I follow your columns every week but I must say that this will be the last! I encouraged all my friends to go to 'The Hague Sports' but seeing that you have no more journalistic integrity I will not be recommending you any longer! I don't understand how someone could mock such a great man and especially at his retirement! After today I will be cancelling my subscription!

Dissapointed in Flint,

p.s. I will also be sending back my "The Hague Sports" Fleece and I didn't want your damn travel mug anyway!!!

I'm still shocked about the Hague Sports Fleece. I didn't know they existed. Hey, if someone has inside access to make a Hague Sports Fleece, they must also have access to the site because you're right, mocking the great commentator on his retirement was completely unprofessional and we don't believe it came from someone within the company and we will continue to investigate.

Off the record, as far as your readership is concerned, that's fine, we really don't need your facebook and myspace friends.

'Didn't know they Existed'? Are you just toying with me? I got it free when I renewed my subscription! I remember because I spoke with a gentleman from New Delhi who promised me a second one because I was such a loyal customer and it just so happened that I ordered a pink one for my wife! The second one never came! But forget about it now!!!
